Aproove is more than a simple online proofing tool. The tiling engine processes every file at upload into thousands of zoom-level tiles. When a reviewer zooms into a region of a proof, the relevant tiles stream to the browser on demand. The reviewer moves from page-level overview to pixel-level detail without waiting for re-rendering or downloading the file. Notes and annotations work at any zoom level, so reviewers can flag the smallest details exactly where they sit.
What it is
Deep Zoom is what happens at the reviewer's end of Aproove's proprietary tiling architecture. At upload, the Processing Agent breaks every proof into tiles at multiple zoom levels and stores them alongside the original. When a reviewer opens the proof and starts zooming, Aproove streams only the tiles needed for the current viewport. No full-file download. No client-side rendering. Just the tiles, on demand.
Administrators can configure the maximum zoom ratio per project type. Some content (packaging dielines, prepress files, financial disclosures) needs the deepest possible zoom. Other content can use a lower zoom ratio to save processing time and storage. The reviewer experience adapts to the work.
Why it matters
A reviewer who cannot see the detail cannot catch the mistake. Brand teams verifying a logo treatment, compliance reviewers reading 6-point disclosure text, packaging specialists confirming a Pantone match, quality teams checking that a barcode reads cleanly: all of them work at scales where the difference between "looks right" and "is right" is invisible at thumbnail resolution.
Most browser-based or online PDF proofing tools handle this badly. Either the zoom is shallow (and reviewers cannot inspect actual detail) or the zoom is deep but slow (and reviewers wait through render times every time they pan or zoom). Both options push the inspection work back to printing physical proofs, opening the file in its native app, or accepting that some defects will get through.
